Mary Vesta Pumphrey
Calico Cut-Ups First President
Mary V. Pumphrey, age 89, from Bella Vista, Arkansas went to be with God on Sunday, January 5, 2020. She was a graduate of Lincoln High School and received a BS degree from the University of Nebraska, Lincoln, NE. Mary was a member of the Sigma Kappa Sorority, member and past President of PEO Chapter CD, Past Matron of Eastern Star, member and past president of Calico Cut-Ups, President of Young at Heart Doll Club and active member of Highland United Methodist Methodist Church. At Highlands United Methodist Church, she served on several committees and sewed cookie covers for the Church’s Annual Cookie Walk for over 25 years.
Mary was known for her sweet nature and love for her family. Mary was a much-beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and aunt. She enjoyed traveling, baking, cooking, learning and of course, quilting. She was an extremely accomplished quilter who loved to share and give of her time and talents.
She spent over 13 years, donating hats and turbans for cancer patients. At last count Mary and the volunteers have made over 4,000 turbans.
If desired, friends may make memorial contributions to the Highlands Methodist Church in Bella Vista, Arkansas or to the Calico Cut-Ups Quilt Guild Mary V. Pumphrey Scholarship Fund, also in Bella Vista.
Mary’s Celebration of Life Memorial Service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on February 18, 2020 at Highlands United Methodist Church on Glasgow Rd, in Bella Vista, Arkansas.
